This week we talk about first aid for your dog, with Franki Specht from Dog First Aid Ltd who run courses for both dog owners and dog professionals all around the country, providing training and skills to literally save a dog’s life.

Ruth also talks about why you shouldn’t buy a puppy for Christmas, and how to keep pets safe and happy over the holiday season.

Rattie owners & experts Clare & Louis Varley joined us on the Hopefield Hour to talk rats! Clare & Louis met through their love of rats and even had rats at their wedding! They chatted to us about why rats make such good pets & how to take care of them, where pet rats came from and some of the incredible work that the Gambian pouched rats do saving lives around the world.

The Hopefield Hour is a new show presented by Ruth E Mortimer from Brentwood charity Hopefield Animal Sanctuary. Tune in every Wednesday 6-7pm on Phoenix FM for all things animal!

Hopefield Animal Sanctuary has been caring for sick, unwanted and mistreated animals since 1983. We hope that the Hopefield Hour will be a chance for us to talk about animal welfare, pet advice, rescue and animal issues in the news.

With various guests lined up for December and January, including South Essex Wildlife Hospital, the RSPCA, Animal Aid, Dog First Aid and shows on ferrets and rats too! If you are a local animal expert, charity or enthusiast, please get in touch if you would like to be on the show.
