London Fashion Week

LFW

This week saw London’s design talent take to the spotlight and flaunt their predictions. As New York’s quirkier, more vibrant fashion sibling (albeit slightly rougher around the hems), London always throws up some edgy trends.

Highlights of London fashion week

Stella McCartney blew the audience away with a mixture of illusion, magic and model acrobatics as she presented the Autumn/Winter 2012 season. Taking an
alternative approach to showcase her collection, the designer invited celebrities like Kate Moss, Rihanna and Yasmin Le Bon to view the show in a dimly lit deconstructed church in London’s Mayfair. After enjoying a six-course vegetarian meal, guests were treated to a special ‘performance’ by models planted around the room who suddenly leapt up and performed an energetic dance routine to Led Zeppelin.

The models were all wearing the designers’ autumn/winter collection and were joined by male dancers from the Royal Ballet who were disguised as waiters. Female performers and supermodels wore key pieces from the collection, which includes psychedelic prints and Chinese-inspired designs.
Christopher Kane’s collection contained lots of berry shades, consisting of pinstripe fur, and leopard print leather.  Oversized florals. His shows always offer something different and he teaches you new ways to see and wear clothes.

Burberry’s collection highlighted velvet suits, satin jackets with zip details. Country-living was a key  influence with  tweed caps, cord skirts with flippy hems, belts, bags and umbrella handles featuring gold fox faces.

Budget tip

Investing in accessories is a great way to jazz up your wardrobe without spending a fortune. They change an outfit immediately – you could wear the same pair of jeans and plain T-shirt
for a full week, but with different accesories, and no one would know. Look out for statement pieces of jeweler – such as oversized necklaces, unusual scarves, or eye-grabbing belts. Anything that’ll alter the appearance of an outfit and add that ‘wow’ factor is what you’re after.
