Barcelona To Play In Australia For First Time
In a friendly in Sydney next month, five-time European champions Barcelona will face an A-League All Stars team for the first time in their history, the club announced on Wednesday.
Sydney’s 80,000-seat Accor Stadium will host the match on Wednesday, 25 May, a few days after the A-League Men grand final and several days after Barcelona close out their La Liga campaign against Villarreal.
After a resurgence under new manager Xavi Hernández and club star, Barcelona is second in La Liga. Pedri, Dani Alves, Sergio Busquets and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are among the players he is expected to bring with him.
“We are pleased to announce this match in Australia today against the A-League All-Stars. The team will visit the country for the first time, and Barca is generating a lot of interest here,” said Juli Guiu, FC Barcelona’s vice-president of marketing.

“Having just completed our third soccer season impacted by Covid, the A-League is once again a preferred destination for international teams”, says A-League chief executive Danny Townsend.
“The clash between one of the best teams in the world and the best in the A-League will offer a feast of football for Australian fans during grand-final week.”
