Senior League Cup
An Eric Kelly hat-trick helped see Chingford Athletic move into the next round of the Senior League Cup at the expense of Frenford Res. Roydon also progress after a 3-1 win over Shoebury Town that included a top corner volley from Charlie Rider to seal the win. Rider actually scored twice with Darren Williams supplying the other Roydon goal. Aaron Day scored the Shoebury reply. Toby also won 3-1 at Ongar Town with Ben Turner, Junior Bammeke and Arron Watson-McNab scoring a goal apiece with Sean Green scoring the Ongar consolation.
Premier Division
Buckhurst Hill maintained their winning start after a 3-0 win over Springfield. Steve Townsend opened the scoring via a penalty which was initially saved but he fired home the rebound and then went on to add another goal later on; Steve Sollosi also got on the score sheet and the win sees Buckhurst Hill remain top of the table and setting the early pace. Harold Wood Athletic sit second on goal difference after goals from Charlie Liddiard, Ade Onileyan and Robert Whitnell secured a 3-1 away win at Old Southendian; Kelvedon Hatch are up to third after they registered a 5-1 win Hutton with Steve Barlex, Dan Gillard, Anthony Aylett, Andy Edmunds plus an own goal completing the goal tally. Nav Arain’s brace helped Great Baddow register their first win of the season. Ben Cross scored the other goal in the 3-2 win over Leigh Ramblers who replied via Harry Haysom and Andrew Webster. Sungate also picked up a 3-2 win over local rivals Manford Way which included a brace from Jack Clarke plus a solitary goal provided by Bobbie Port. Sungate move up to eighth after this win, while Manford Way slip into the drop zone having now lost all four of their opening league games. Mark Nougher was the Bishop’s Stortford Swifts scorer in a 1-1 draw with Catholic United, who replied via Mike Sammut. Canning Town and Rayleigh Town also shared a point each after their encounter finished goalless.
Division One
Max Jones scored twice for Rayleigh Town Res. who went on to beat May & Baker E.C. Res. 4-1 with Matt Seago and Jimmy Nottage also getting on the score sheet. The win sees Rayleigh remain leaders. Sener Suavi bagged a double with Alex Witham also notching for Basildon Town whose 3-0 win over Herongate Athletic moves them up to second. Ramsden Scotia also won by the same score line over FC Hamlets, while a Tyrique Solomon goal was enough to see Snaresbrook take all the points with a 1-0 home win over Shenfield AFC.
Division Two
Upminster rifled seven without reply at May & Baker E.C. ‘A’ which sees them move to the top of the table; May & Baker’s ‘A’ team meanwhile now sit bottom after two heavy defeats from their opening two games. Ryan also sit near the foot of the table after losing both of their opening two league games; on Saturday their trip to Newham United ended in a 3-0 defeat with Lamar Obinkwo (2) and Richard Boah the Newham marksmen. Harold Wood Athletic Res. posted their first win of the season as Mike Burton and Tom Lamb hit the target in a 2-1 home win over Beacon Hill Rovers.
Division Three
Ben Jones notched a hat-trick for Westhamians who went on to beat Wakering Sports 6-0. Dave Gornall, Lewis Lawrence and Ben O’Brien scored the other goals. Andy Cable, Oli Tatton-Bennett and Pete Jelley were the Old Southendian Res. scorers in a 3-3 draw with Leigh Town.
