Ryman League North: Romford 0 Brentwood Town 5

Brentwood Town run riot in Romford, as they continued their push for the play-offs with a convincing 5-0 away victory against local side Romford.

Tom Richardson scored the opening goal from the penalty spot after Nathan Cooper handled the ball inside the box.

Sherwin Stanley grabbed a 13 minute second half hat-trick, to give ‘The Blues’ three back to back victories since September.

Substitute Sam Bantick scored late on to deflate Romford further and secured Brentwood’s best victory of the season.

Brentwood had the first opportunity 12 minutes in as a free-kick by Shad Ngandu 25 yards out curled just wide.

With three minutes to go till half time, a volley by Jack Gardner was deemed to be handled by the Romford defender Nathan Cooper and pointed to the spot.

Richardson stepped up and put it low into the bottom left corner giving Aaron Ormond no chance, to put Brentwood in front.

Brentwood doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half, with lovely play by Danny Dafter to Ngandu and came to Stanley to bend his shot into the far corner.

‘The Blues’ made a quick third goal as Robbie Rees went galloping down the right flank, rode a challenge clipped it in for Stanley to guide it into the far post.

The visitors missed a chance to extend their lead as substitute Alex Akrofi put in a low cross which evaded everyone and Stanley’s shot was well saved by Ormand from six yards.

Brentwood converted a fourth shortly after, as Jack Gardner’s cross field ball found Stanley unmarked and cut inside the keeper to prod it home, for his hat-trick.

Substitute Sam Bantick notched up a fifth for Brentwood, as both substitutes made an impact as Alex Akrofi beat his man and unselfishly cut it back for Bantick to score in an empty net.
