About Naomi Sayers

Presenter of Feelgood Saturday, 10-12 every, err... Saturday! Join me on PhoenixFM for upbeat music and chat to get your weekend started right.

A musical extravaganza!

Two exciting interviews on this week’s Feelgood Saturday – both on the theme of musicals. First I chatted to Chesney Hawkes on the phone and heard how he’s preparing for his role as Joseph in Joseph & the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the Brentwood Centre in April. I also discovered he’s a West Ham fan and encouraged him to check out The West Ham Way on Phoenix.

To listen back to the interview with Chesney, just click the link below:

Tickets are available from the usual outlets – you can get them from the Brentwood Centre’s website or by calling 0333 666 3366. They’re priced at £20 – £30.

Then the musicals fun continued in the second hour with Jake, Dan and Jamie (l-r) three of the boys from BOSSY theatre crew – the Brentwood-based youth theatre group – dropped in to chat about their fifteenth anniversary concert next weekend and treated us to two live performances. Plus a little tease of their next production – Phantom of the Opera, which will take place in November.

They’re on the hunt for new members so get in touch if you want to join the clan. Full show can be heard here and a track listing (including lots of my favourite musical numbers) is below:

Being Valkyrie

On this week’s #FeelgoodSaturday we kept the International Women’s Day vibes alive with lots of lady music and a chat with a very strong lady (literally, she’s a bodybuilder)

Suzie Volkes of The Valkryie Solution bounded into the studio and we had great fun! She talked all about the female fitness phenomenon she’s kicked off with her women’s health club and what it’s like on the women’s bodybuilding circuit. She even gave us some tips for exercises you can do at home while listening to the show every week…

Listen back to her interview here and the exercises can be seen ably demonstrated below.

Suzie’s always on the look-out for new female warriors to drive the movement so check out her website to sign up:

She’s the creator of the Witchy Travel Tales series, the third book of which is due for release in a couple of weeks. We were chatting about how she owes the beginning of her writing career to WhatsApp, as well as how she goes about building each story and what’s next for the witch Miranda and her seven daughters.

Listen back to that here:

You can follow Sibel on twitter on @witchytales1 or her instagram is witchytraveltales. Her first two books are out now on amazon or Waterstones online, with the third “The Golden Bunny of the Lake District” out very soon.

Chatting romance with Daniel Molyneaux

A #FeelgoodSaturday first for me this week with the first proper live performance since I’ve been running the show! And what a way to start!

Daniel Molyneaux first came in last summer and we played three tracks from his album and had lots of fun chatting – so much so that I invited him back to sing live. He performed two tracks from his album I’ll Be Waiting, which is out now. Daniel’s in the middle on the picture below, with his keyboard player Josiah on the left.

You can follow Daniel on facebook (@DanielMolyneauxOfficial), twitter (@SoundofDaniel) or instagram (soundofdaniel) and check out his videos on YouTube. The album “I’ll Be Waiting” is available on iTunes, tidal, Spotify and most other music download services. Plus he has his own website! To listen back to my chat with Daniel and his performance just click the link below:

The Brentwood and Billericay Plogging Club

On this week’s show we delved into the latest Scandi trend – something called “plogging”. We also chatted about (and barely contained our excitement about) those rumours of a Spice Girls reunion.

Plus we caught up on the latest goings-on from the world of entertainment, including why a nudey painting in a Manchester art gallery caused controversy this week.

Plus we had a bird-brained Headliner…

Listen back to the whole thing here:

Holy Carp!

A slightly condensed #FeelgoodSaturday this week as both me and my guest suffered from traffic issues because of the Brentwood Centre’s annual carp show!

I still managed to squeeze a lot into those 100 minutes. In the entertainment news we talked about Reese Witherspoon’s three legs and looked at the Oscar nominations, as well as a first play of one of the artists hoping to represent the UK at this year’s Eurovision.

We also wrapped our brains around this week’s Headliner – so if you fancy teasing your brain then listen back here:

And after battling his way through the traffic George Redwood made it in for a chat ahead of his appearance on a brand new BBC One reality show called ‘All Together Now’.

George has just released his debut single, a cover of Michael Jackson’s P.Y.T, which you can see on YouTube or facebook (or in many other ways). Give him a follow on twitter for all the latest!

To hear George’s interview, including his brilliant single ‘ P.Y.T’, just listen back below:

A listing of all the tracks I played today is here (not including the mystery Headliners, of course!)

On this week’s show there was a welcome return for 2018 for Headliner – the current affairs/ music quiz that plays you five mystery tracks that all have something in common – they’re all linked to a story that was in the news this week.

On top of Headliner we had the Entertainment news, including an update on the likelihood of a Sex & the City 3 film. We also chatted about the Brit awards, a Stranger Things wedding request and some of our favourite pop stars who have significant birthdays this year. Plus we narrowly avoided a Black Lace ambush!

A Brentwood bonanza

On this week’s #FeelgoodSaturday we had a Brentwood bonanza. I was joined by not one, but three guests in the studio, representing some of the finest businesses Brentwood has to offer.

First up was Tref Griffiths, creator of Clued Upp, a virtual murder mystery game that you play on the streets through an app on your phone. After success all over the country, he’s bringing it to Brentwood next month (on 10th February).

Listen back to our chat to find out a bit more about CluedUpp Brentwood, how you can play and where to get tickets. Tickets are on sale from Sunday 14 January so don’t miss out!

Then, after eleven I welcomed back returning guest Jacqui Duly, from Pussycat Lodge Trust. She brought with her this time, Dave, who looks after the lovable population of ferals at the Brentwood-based cat and kitten rescue charity. We chatted all things feline – from why it’s so important to neuter your cats, to the things you should think about if you’re thinking of getting a cat. So listen back if you’re interested in cats or in the great work this charity does.

You can also follow Pussycat Lodge on facebook and twitter, which I’d recommend if you like to look at pictures of cute cats.

To hear the whole Feelgood Saturday Brentwood bonanza you can listen again here:
