Presenter of Feelgood Saturday, 10-12 every, err... Saturday! Join me on PhoenixFM for upbeat music and chat to get your weekend started right.

A Brentwood bonanza

On this week’s #FeelgoodSaturday we had a Brentwood bonanza. I was joined by not one, but three guests in the studio, representing some of the finest businesses Brentwood has to offer.

First up was Tref Griffiths, creator of Clued Upp, a virtual murder mystery game that you play on the streets through an app on your phone. After success all over the country, he’s bringing it to Brentwood next month (on 10th February).

Listen back to our chat to find out a bit more about CluedUpp Brentwood, how you can play and where to get tickets. Tickets are on sale from Sunday 14 January so don’t miss out!

Then, after eleven I welcomed back returning guest Jacqui Duly, from Pussycat Lodge Trust. She brought with her this time, Dave, who looks after the lovable population of ferals at the Brentwood-based cat and kitten rescue charity. We chatted all things feline – from why it’s so important to neuter your cats, to the things you should think about if you’re thinking of getting a cat. So listen back if you’re interested in cats or in the great work this charity does.

You can also follow Pussycat Lodge on facebook and twitter, which I’d recommend if you like to look at pictures of cute cats.

On the first Feelgood Saturday of 2018 we thought we’d delve into the murky world of finance. This time of year we’re often thinking about how we can be better with money – because of a New Year’s resolution we’ve made or due to Christmas over-indulgence.

My guest today was on hand to help us through it. James Blower, founder of the Brentwood-based financial consultancy – The Savings Guru – was full of tips for getting your money in order, the best ways to save and even helped us understand what on earth a bitcoin is. You can hear the interview with James below and to find out more about the Savings Guru, visit their website here – where you’ll also find advice and a way to ask them any other questions you might have.  You can also follow them on twitter.

Elsewhere in the show, we looked forward to some very significant events and anniversaries in 2018, checked in on events in the local area and got a bit of an eyeful in the entertainment news…

The In-between

It’s that funny time of year between Christmas and New Year where you’re not quite sure what day it is, what meal you’re on, or whether you’re coming or going generally.

This week’s Feelgood Saturday is the perfect anecdote for those in-between blues – two hours of great music (if you don’t believe me, check out the track listing below), entertainment news and gossip. Topics covered included the New Year honours (arise, Sir Ringo!), why I’m taking a different approach to New Year’s Resolutions – and some of the other ways to spend the days in-between crimbo and January 1st.

A mindful mince pie

Part of feeling good is sometimes taking the time to take stock and savour what you’re doing – so on this week’s Feelgood Saturday I invited local mindfulness expert Andy Powell in to the show to do just that.

Andy has been practising mindfulness for 15 years and had some really useful tips for helping us enjoy being present and get a little mental calm. Particularly important in the run-up to Christmas when we can all get a bit frazzled by all the shopping, parties and dashing about like a headless chicken (or should that be turkey).

Andy Powell

To hear my full interview with Andy, on why mindfulness is important, who can do it and how to do it – click the link below:

He also guided us through a quick three-minute starter session – a great taster for what it means to be mindful. You can listen back to that below:

For more tips from Andy make sure you visit the Brentwood Mindfulness facebook page, or his own website:

Elsewhere on the show we covered the Entertainment news, crowd-sourced some ideas for how I can spend my time off work over Christmas and also I predicted the winner of Strictly 2017! (I was right by the way!).

Keep the change… ya filthy animal!

Saturday 9th December equals just over two weeks until the big day! And to help us get into the true spirit of Christmas I invited Andrew Schrader – Billericay local film buff (and self-proclaimed geek) onto Feelgood Saturday to talk festive films.

He has some pretty controversial opinions and some pretty tasteful knitwear, so listen back to the interview to hear his top three pick of Christmas films and why he thinks those movies are so important to make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

You may also have a view on who emerges victorious in the battle of the festive knitwear – although I’m more John Snow than let it snow! Festive film fun with Andrew Schrader

Elsewhere on the show, there was jive talking, a tribute to Billericay’s most tragic resident and we found out who was the most streamed artist of 2017!

Plus loads of feelgood music (and an increasing number of Christmas songs creeping in).

Peter the spider?

This week’s Feelgood Saturday was fairly therapeutic as it helped me come to terms with the terrifying arachnid just outside the studio door. He’s there every week – lurking – at once my most loyal listener and my harshest critic!

We crowd-sourced a name for him and Peter was the winner! Here he is in all his glory:Peter the spider

Elsewhere on the show we had the entertainment news, a royal Headliner and we checked out the Charleston ahead of Strictly. So if you’ve ever wondered what “swivel” is and how to do it -you need to listen back to the show at the link below:
