NEWS THIS WEEK IN 1980
Tragically, John Lennon was murdered by Mark David Chapman in front of The Dakota in New York City. In 1985, New York City dedicated an area of Central Park directly across from the Dakota as Strawberry Fields, where Lennon had frequently walked. Lennon was honoured with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991. Although “So This is Christmas” was written and first released in 1971, it went to #2 in 1980.
