As We Get Older And Stop Making Sense – 30/09/12

33RPM was back on the air this week after a brief one week break, a big thanks to Nick Field for covering in my absence.
While I was away I’ve been thinking about all the 2012 releases that I’ve yet to hear (due to various reasons, one being the focus on filling in the many gaps in my musical knowledge!),  so I’ve decided that for the rest of this year I will only be listening to music released this year (I may cheat a little and include reissues in this). Already in the past week and a half I’ve heard some great albums, including a few that I missed out on when they were released, and over the coming weeks I’ll be playing more and more tracks from this year.
Which brings us onto this weeks playlist. September really has been quite possibly (off the top of my head and without actually checking previous months) the best month for album releases so far this year. The XX, Grizzly Bear, Deerhoof, Azure Ray are all worth some of your hard-earned pennies, along with two big post-rock releases from Mono & Caspian. Also the Django Django debut from earlier this year seems to continue to grow in popularity as I seem to keep getting an increase in requests each week for something from their first album (I’m sure the Mercury Music Prize nomination can’t have hurt).
In gig news, I was very very very very very very happy (did I mention I was happy) to learn that Stars Of The Lid will be playing a concert at the Round Chapel in London on December 10th. Tickets are going fast but if you are very quick you can still pick some up from We Got Tickets.
Finally, on next weeks show I’ll be celebrating two! years of 33RPM with a second anniversary show. Which will be on from 7-10pm (a whole extra hour you lucky lucky people), so join me, there may even be cake!
Playlist is below along with a Spotify playlist of some of this weeks music. See you next week!

1. Foals – Black Gold (Total Life Forever – 2010)
2. Talking Heads – Girlfriend Is Better (Speaking In Tongues – 1983)
3. The XX – Sunset (Coexist – 2012)
