About Charlie Davy

I started off where many young radio upstarts begin - Hospital Radio. I kept my hand in presenting on and off professionally over the years but found that the technical side appealed more to me. I originally got involved with Phoenix FM just after the full-time licence was granted in 2007, presenting Drive and then coming back (on more than one occasion!) for more. Somebody must like me as I'm now back doing the Drive show once again a decade later!

Brentwood Business Awards – Ian Marshall

As part of Phoenix FM’s support of the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce 2018 Brentwood Business Awards, representatives from sponsoring organisations will be appearing on shows over the coming weeks to explain their reasons for supporting the event and their category of award.

Today’s guest was Ian Marshall from Spargo Hairdressing who are sponsoring the Sales and Marketing Award.

Ian explained their reasons for supporting the event, this award in particular and explained a bit about what is being looked-for in deciding a winner.  We also spoke about music in the salon (“Phoenix FM, we hope!”), plus the Spargoland initiative, a way of giving something back to the local community.

Movies with Mark Searby

The weekend is upon us once again – and on Friday’s Drive show at 3:30 is when our resident movie man, Mark Searby offers his thoughts on some cinema, Blu-ray and DVD outings…

This week, a gnome that thinks it’s Sherlock (with a white goatee), the true story of a plane hijacking, a very disappointing Western (a genre every actor feels required to do) and John Cusack’s rather poor sci-fi performance.

90s Stars in the Phoenix FM studio….

The wrong version of a song gets played!

It’s raining. Our roof has a plastic skylight – so where did they decide to place the presenter’s chair? That’s right – directly under it!

New music from older artists – do we care?

May the 4th Be With You
I couldn’t resist a bit of Star Wars Day fun with our resident movie critic, Mark Searby.

We also had the benfit of Mark Searby’s insight in to classic zombie offerings and how, despite the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and such – that the cinema experience is still strong.

Kimberley Smith – Define Beauty

On today’s show, I welcomed Kimberley Smith from Define Beauty which runs clinics at Mind Body Spirit at the Holiday Inn, Brentwood.

Cryolipolysis, also known as “fat freezing”, is a process that destroys fat cells using low temperatures.  Suitable for both male and females, it removes unwanted areas of fat from the body.  Kimberley also spoke about how it can tackle “problematic” areas of fat that may be difficult to shift due to physical limitations (perhaps as a result of an injury).

Listen to the interview by clicking the player above…

Kimberley and I first met at the Phoenix Family Business Networking event back in April – you can read a bit more about how that went on this page.  The next meet-up is on Thursday 10th May from 12midday at the Shenfield Cricket Club.

A Week on Drive by Charlie

Here’s what happened on the Drive show this week: Business Awards chatter, sun tans, Trump’s handshake, a meal deal problem, a late night kitty scrap plus movies and a song by a Manics fan…

Facebook ads and buying clothes

The woe of cat’s having a late-night scrap…

Improving the Orient Hour promo…

The return of Chucklevision (to me, to you)

Music from Twitter
Last night I stumbled-upon a Tweet that featured a composition by Manic Street Preachers fan, George McKenna.  Here’s the link to the Manics’ Sound-on-Sound article I mentioned, too.

A Week on Drive by Charlie

Some of the best (and worst) snippets from the Drive show which is just about great music, travel news, events news and “news” news” – but in between all of that is ME.  What’s not to like?

BYE NAOMI!

Last week was a little emotional as Naomi Hefford presented her last show and there’ll be no more bants like this…  Also have a listen to her final “get back” for all the daft shenanigans I’ve thrown her way these past few months (it seems like years, actually).

Naomi is Leaving!

As for the rest of my ramblings – Prick back your ears ‘cos here we go:

I got a little excited about the warmer weather expected during the week…

There’s a new telescope that’s going to look at the stars!

Phones that can find all pictures of YOU (or ME) – not creepy at all!

How to intro Bruno Mars and Cardi-B in a hip ‘n’ happening way…

Not another data breach… *klaxon* DATA BREACH ALERT

Exam cheats and getting frisky at the airport…

No more ‘spoons on the social media outlets 🙁

I’m a little snobby, so I’m not a fan of food outlets that have a laminated wipe-clean menu!

Friday saw the Film Review with Mark Searby – that’s on this page here…

Film Review with Mark Searby

Friday afternoons at 3:30 means a look at some weekend film offerings courtesy of our resident movie guru, Mark Searby.

Cinema : The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (the longest title for a film?) … The Leisure Seeker

Blu-ray/DVD : Brigsby Bear (creepy plot!) … Ferdinand (he’s a bull, yes really!)

In the next few weeks, we’ll have a bit of a “horror” theme thanks to a couple of special guests in the studio plus Mark will be sporting his best May The Forth Be With You attire!

The First Phoenix Family Business Networking Event

Movies with Mark Searby

Friday on the Drive show at 3:30 means the movie review with Mark Searby – a special edition this week as Mark brought 3 cinema and 2 Blu-ray/DVD offerings to the table as well as me bringing-up the forthcoming The Predator movie.

Cinema: RampageThe Titan … Custody
Blu-ray/DVD: The Disaster ArtistStar Wars: The Last Jedi

Mark’s reviews can be heard below…

I surprised Mark with a comment about the new The Predator movie which sees Lethal Weapon writer, Shane Black, as director (who was involved with, and co-starred in the original 1987 film).  The amusing aspect to this was discussing Jean-Claude Van Damme as the original actor inside a very early (quote: a stretched Kermit-the-Frog) Predator suit!  Have a look at that on YouTube here!

Here’s our The Predator chat…

Poppy Phillips Sings in Joseph with Chesney Hawkes

On today’s show, I was joined by Poppy Phillips who is one of the singers in the production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat which is on at the Brentwood Centre.

Hear Poppy speak with me about singing, a selfie with Chesney, and her fondness for Taylor Swift…  This audio can be downloaded here.

Earlier in the week, Scott Ross welcomed Chesney Hawkes into the studio and you can listen to chat conversation here…

On Tuesday’s show – there was some quality Easter Egg bants with Naomi Hefford…

Being behind on my show admin and a quick mention about Bullseye…

Slam-dunkin’ Drones dropping your Amazon gubbins into your garden (usually the fish-pond)…

More Amazon chatter…

My very basic Facebook profile: #NoCatPictures

On Friday, we had our regular movie review with Mark Searby – that can be heard on its separate page here…
