Did you know there’s a ship in your garden?

Now just in case you missed it, just last month news came in that a cargo ship, had crashed into a man’s front garden.

Well it was in Norway!

The 135m long container ship successfully embedded itself in the man’s garden, narrowly missing his house, where he was sleeping peacefully, blissfully unaware of the drama unfolding just outside his front door.

House owner, Johan Helberg, was only aroused after a neighbour rang his doorbell, at a time that he didn’t really like opening the door. What he really wanted to do was to go back to sleep, but given the insistence of the ring, he finally gave in and went to answer the door where he was met by someone he knew well who was looking at him in amazement, asking if he’d not seen the ship, which he hadn’t.

The local police force is planning an investigation but stated that there was no suspicion of anyone in charge of the vessel being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Maybe the SATNAV simply announced, “You have arrived at your destination!”

For this week’s feature, Margaret Mills looked at a building in Matching Green, known variously as The Wedding Breakfast Room or Wedding Feast Room.

The building (which is still in use today) dates back to around 1480 and was built and designed by a local benefactor, one William Chimney.

Listen again here to what Margaret had to say on this subject: –

See you once more next week,
Scott
