Hard to believe but it was 7 years ago when I first had the privilege of welcoming a budding young star from Slovenia onto this show, when she sang her debut single, THE ONE, live on air.
Her name is ALYA ELOUISSI, and since that time Alya has really bloomed – having appeared in a number of films, TV series, not to mention commercials and more!
Sadly we here in the UK have not been witness to all of these films and TV shows, which have often aired in Eastern Europe from where Alya hails.
Being fluent in no less than 6 languages with an elementary knowledge of 3 more, has clearly been a huge bonus for her.
Nevertheless even Alya was severely put to the test when she appeared in a Russian TV series in which she was called upon to play the part of a Spanish woman, Spanish, being one of the few languages she’s not yet fully mastered.
Bursting with talent, Alya is a singer, songwriter, actress, dancer and model who can also play a variety of musical instruments, who chose to re-locate from her native Slovenia, and set herself up in London at the tender age of just 19, but before that time, aged just 12, Alya was named as the “most promising actress” at The Festival of Theatre Dreams in Ljubljana.
Later Alya briefly returned to Eastern Europe to represent Slovenia at 10th International Theatre Summer School of the Theatre Union of Russian Federation in Moscow in 2016, which lead to her acceptance into the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts, the following year, from which she graduated 4 years later.
But we’ve been lucky that Alya has since come back to London where she recently recorded her latest single, CAN LIVE WITHOUT YOU, which we’ve been giving some airtime to here on PHOENIX FM.

In the second hour of today’s show we took another look at a story we covered last week about SYDNEY SWEENEY, an actress who’s been selling her own bathwater in bars of soap!
We’ve returned to this story this week as it seems that her decision has proved so successful, that demand is massively outstripping supplies.
Sales of the bars of soap, guaranteed to include droplets of her bathwater, launched on the DRSQUATCH website, two weeks ago on the 6th June – each bar being supplied complete with a certificate of authenticity.
The price at launch was US$8 – around £5.90 per 5 oz bar.
But demand was such that the website soon crashed with the product selling out within seconds, leaving many potential customers mightily disappointed.
However the disappointment need not last too long as those who got in quick are now busy actively re-selling the now, second-hand bars of soap at a massive profit.
Whilst the general re-sale price on e-Bay started out close to the £200 mark, you’d have needed to be quick to snap them up at that price as some are now going for as much as $2000 (£1478!).
One opportunist seller is even offering just a quarter of a bar for £105, whilst someone else is listing just a picture of the soap for £73 – presumably minus the certificate of authenticity.
Perhaps it time for Sydney to take another bath!
