I’m very grateful to local resident Gail Carpenter for bringing this issue to my attention.
Only last month, the police made the horrific discovery of 37 dead dogs and 20 more in urgent need of care at a property in Crays Hill in Essex. Since then, the remains of 4 further dogs have been recovered bring the toll to 41.
This was linked to the organisation “Save a Paw” which claimed to be a dog rescue.
Under the pretence of helping animals, serious neglect and cruelty were uncovered and many more dogs remain unaccounted for. The case is under active investigation. One man has been charged with animal cruelty and fraud, and another man and a woman have both been released on bail.
Many will be surprised to hear that dog rescues in England and Wales are not regulated. No licenses, no inspections, and no protection. Animals are suffering behind closed doors.
Let’s make rescue the safe space it’s meant to be.
Please please help by signing and sharing the government petition calling for the introduction of licences and regulation for dog and cat rescues. It only takes a couple of seconds to add your email address to the petition.
Simply go to petition.parliament.uk/petitions/718660
Or search “government petitions” then “dog rescue”
This is not just about justice for the dogs that suffered, It’s about changing the system so this never happens again. Thank you

Martin’s Choice – My song choice for this week is by British rock band Dire Straits who formed in London in 1977 by Mark Knopfler with other band members, brother Dave Knopfler, John Illsley, and Pick Withers.
Their first single was “Sultans Of Swing” from their 1978 self titled debut album which reached the top 10 in both the UK and US charts, this was followed by a series of hit singles and albums. Their most successful album was “Brothers In Arms” released in 1985 which has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. It was the first album to sell a million on what was then the new CD format!
It is the eighth best selling album in UK history and spent 1,100 weeks in the album charts. Both this album and their previous album “love Over Gold” are fantastic and are a must to listen to! The songs are amazing and the production of the albums is fantastic along with Mark Knopfler’s unique style of guitar playing which is so recognisable and mood inspiring!
The song I have chosen is “Brothers In Arms” the title track from the album of the same name. Mark Knopfler wrote it in 1982 influenced by the Falklands war at the time.
Just recently I spent the day in London and I came across the statue commemorating all the firefighters who fought tirelessly to extinguish the fires and rescue people from buildings during the blitz in world war 2. Then I suddenly realised the date was also the 6th of June, the 81st anniversary of the D Day Landings in Normandy France which marked the start of the end of the war in Europe. This song just came into my head! The song is a great tribute to all of those people back then and today who have laid down their lives to protect us all. This song is for them.
