Fancy a “mystery holiday”

With the weather showing no signs, as yet of getting more summery, you may be thinking of making a “get away” but looking at the costs involved you might be tempted by one of those “bargain breaks”.

If this is you, have you ever been tempted by adverts for WOWCHER MYSTERY HOLIDAYS?

Offering mystery getaways including hotel stays and return flights from just £99, and listing such exotic destinations as Las Vegas, Barbados, Thailand, Florida, Dominican Republic, Toronto, Disneyland Paris, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus, Egypt & More, it’s almost too good to be true!

As with anything, it’s probably wise to carefully read the fine print, something that 23-year old Edinburgh based student, Cara Piper possibly failed to do.

After spotting a Wowcher master holiday on social media, she impulsively decided to go for it. She and her partner, Ethan, promptly stumped up the asking price of £129 each.

Although Cara said she would be happy to go almost anywhere, she allowed herself to imagine a weekend away in New York, or perhaps one of the many other destinations so enticingly promoted in the literature, so was a naturally excited when the e-mail from Wowcher, finally arrived to disclose the destination to which they would be jetting off.

Her dreams collapsed in an instant once it was revealed that their holiday destination would be Edinburgh, which was precisely where she was when she opened the e-mail!

Also staying at home, in  the second hour, I was once again joined by our resident local historian, Margaret Mills who took us back to the tail end of the 17th century to look at crime prevention in those far off days.

At that time, before any police existed, if you were found to be drunk and disorderly, or believed to be involved in an nefarious activities, you might well have found yourself marched off to a “lock-up” or “cage” by the local nightwatchman, where you would be held overnight, before being dragged up before a local judge the following morning.

You can listen again here to what Margaret told me today: –

I very much look forward to your company once more next week,
Scott
