Jessica Martin, has been Dean of Chelmsford Cathedral for five months. The building is light and full of many works of art. The Cathedral holds at least three services every day. Jessica noted that in the busyness of daytimes in Chelmsford, the Cathedral can be a place for quiet reflection. This could include lighting a candle and also talking and praying with a chaplain if desired. Jessica suggested the sung evensongs at 5.15 Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday and 3.30 on Sundays can be immersive. Educational activities for schools and adults are part of the regular activities. Music plays a very important role at the Cathedral. Everyone is delighted that there are a number of young probationary choristers that are increasingly being involved in worship. (The recording of Director of Music Emma Gibbins talking about the vision for a musical education for young people at the Cathedral can be found at the showblog 27.9.24.) Many events are planned and details can be found on the Cathedral website. Jessica announced that later in the year Mars War and Peace, Luke Jerram’s immersive installation featuring detailed Nasa imagery of the Martian surface, which also has a soundscape, will be coming to the Cathedral. There will be lots of events around this installation.

John Martyn – Don’t want to know – from 1973 album – Solid Air. Jessica said that this was a track introduced to her by her brother Magnus.
