LISTEN AGAIN EDITION:

As you may recall I brought my first titanium luxury type watch and are sort of back into my love of Horology- wrist watches. Of recent, I’ve been baffled by the high prices of the real high-end luxury watches and yet with the bargain price of fake versions knocking about, along with the often awesome ‘Homage’ watches, which look as good but are not saying they are the real thing but their own thing. Tribute watches I would call them, so close to the originals but with their own flair. With all this confusion on the matter of fake/homage I asked Google AI all about it; A “homage” watch is one that is inspired by, and often looks similar to, an existing watch, while a “fake” watch is a direct copy intended to pass off as the real thing. Homage watches are generally made by a different brand, are not trying to deceive, and may have subtle differences to avoid infringement claims. Fakes are replicas meant to mimic the original brand and logo. Here below is a more detailed breakdown:
Homage Watches:
Not trying to deceive:
Homage watches acknowledge and celebrate the design of another watch, often a luxury or classic model.
Made by different brands:
They are produced by a separate manufacturer, distinct from the watch they’re inspired by.
Intentional differences:
They may have subtle variations to avoid being mistaken for the original, such as different logos.
Honest acknowledgement:
Homage watches openly acknowledge the inspiration and don’t attempt to pass themselves off as the original.
Fake Watches (Replica/Counterfeit):
Intended to deceive: Fake watches are replicas created to look like an authentic watch, including the brand name and logo.
Exact copies: They are often very close, if not identical, to the original watch model.
Illegitimate: They are unauthorized copies and violate intellectual property rights.
Lower quality: Fakes often use cheaper materials and mechanics than genuine watches.
In summary, homage watches are inspired by, but distinct from, existing designs, while fakes are direct copies intended to deceive and in some cases – It is also worth noting, the some of the big luxury brand companies had allegedly been known to have farmed out production to these homage companies to produce their work in the past.
On my Chatbit, I asked, Have you brought any known fake items or a Homage style product and what is your views on them?
