If you’re a regular listener to this show you’ll hear me playing tracks from Oxford band SAMURAI SEVEN from time to time. They were a band active in the late 90s and early 2000s, released one great album – LE SPORT – in 2002, and split soon afterwards.

It wasn’t just me who thought they were great; John Peel did too, and invited them in for FIVE Peel Sessions.

After splitting, three of the band formed THE DIRTY ROYALS who did come in for a Phoenix FM interview and session back in 2008, and the last I saw of that band was in 2013 at a live gig in London.

So now it’s 2025 and the band are back, with its original line up of Simon Williams, Matt Williams, Jimmy Martin and Chris Hayward.

I was delighted to chat to Simon, Matt and Chris to find out why, and what’s in store now. And what’s more, they recorded TWO session tracks for us too!

Tonight’s playlist:

Be Your Own Pet – Adventure
Sam Fenton feat NINA – Plat
Home Counties – Spain
Elbow – Dis-Graceland 463-465 Bury New Road
Pulp – Got To Have Love
Ciel – Swallowing Your Pride
Milltown Brothers – Bring It On
Stereolab – Transmuted Matter
Koala Disco – Romantics

Sea Power – Fear Of Drowning (clean edit)
