PHOENIX SPORT – 24th May 2025

This week, I was delighted to welcome guests Mark and Steve from Grays Athletic Walking Football Club, who explained to me the finer points of Walking Football and told me about the club and their involvement.

The interview can be heard on the link at two hours and nine minutes in, and if you are interested in getting involved with the club you can contact them via their website or  Facebook Page

In an eventful day  of sport,  Sunderland won promotion to football’s Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

Also in football, Aberdeen lifted the Scottish Cup after drawing 1-1 with Celtic after extra time at Hampden Park, and winning the resulting penalty shootout.

And Arsenal won the Women’s Champions League for the second time in their history and the first time for 18 years, a 74th minute goal from Swedish international Stina Blackstenius giving them a 1-0 triumph over Barcelona in Lisbon.

In Rugby Union, Bordeaux clinched the European Champions Cup with a 28-20 win over Northampton Saints in the final at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

Meanwhile, Tennis legend Novak Djokovic – who turned 38 a couple of days ago – clinched his 100th singles title win at the Geneva Open, beating his Polish opponent Hubert Hurkacz by two sets to one, and became only the third player – after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer – to acheive this milestone in the Open era.
