Happy Birthday Dorothy!

It’s always a pleasure to wish one of our local residents Happy Birthday!

Sandie Duffy contacted me to let me know that today is her Mum-in-Law’s 91st birthday and that she would love a birthday shout out on the radio, so it was my privilege to wish Dorothy Luke’s Many Happy Returns!

Sandie went on to say that Dorothy’s friend Joan made it onto Vernon Kay’s show on the BBC last week and didn’t want to be outdone so would love to hear her request on the radio, which was Tom Jones – She’s a Lady

I thought I would outdo Vernon Kay and make it a feature on our website too! Happy Birthday Dorothy!

Also on today’s show –

Greater Anglia is set to be nationalised later this year, the rail operator has said.

Dua Lipa, Sir Elton John, Sir Ian McKellen and Florence Welch are among a list of stars calling on the prime minister to update copyright laws in a way that protects them from artificial intelligence.

Army officers carried out a controlled explosion of an anti-aircraft shell on a beach after a member of the public picked it up.

Birthdays –

1973 – Natalie Appleton, Canadian singer and actress She is a member of the British girl group All Saints and the duo Appleton with her younger sister Nicole Appleton.

1976 – Martine McCutcheon, English actress and singer

1984 – Olly Murs, English singer-songwriter

1984 – Mark Zuckerberg, American computer programmer and businessman, co-founded Facebook

Martin’s Choice   This week I’m going to feature the singer songwriter and folk rock musician Al Stewart. Born in Scotland in 1945 he rose to prominence as part of the British Folk revival in the 1960s and 1970s. He developed a unique style of combining folk-rock song with tales of characters and events from history.

He still records music and tours, even at the grand old age of 79 !

During his career he has made 19 studio albums and 4 live albums, some of his more popular albums were produced by Alan Parsons who besides many others produced Pink Floyd’s albums including Dark Side Of The Moon.

Al Stewart’s most famous hit was back in 1976 called Year Of The Cat a track off the album of the same name. The track I have chosen is from his follow up album released in 1978 called Time Passages. The song is also the tittle of the album.

The song is about 6 minutes long and has an amazing saxophone solo on it played by a top session musician called Phil Kenzie who has worked with many famous bands and musicians including The Beatles, The Eagles, Carly Simon and Rod Stewart, to name but a few. You must play song to the end! Hope you enjoy.
