One 2 Three Friday 2.5.25 Frazer Chelmsford rough sleeper support.

Frazer Chelmsford rough sleeper support.
One 2 Three
Patrick Sherring

Frazer is a volunteer every Wednesday evening 6.30 – 7.30pm outside the Chelmsford library, where services are provided for rough sleepers. This initiative has been running since 2017 and is supported by local businesses who donate surplice food. Frazer describes his role as “heavy lifting”. Trestle tables are set up, crates with food, drinks, toiletries and clothing are unloaded. Local businesses donate surplus food. A volunteer with a mobile cooking van provides hot meals. One of the organisers has a network of supporters who are requested to help supply clothing that is needed. Recently an NHS van has also provided a space for consultations and medical advice. Frazer said that you get to know the regulars. In his eighteen months as a volunteer he has been encouraged to see some people get help and move on from requiring this support. Sadly others have come along.  On Wednesday this week there were thirty nine clients. At the moment the group are looking for storage space for clothes and other items within Chelmsford, ideally the size of a garage but damp proof.
