Litter pickers collected over 36,000 items of rubbish during 10 days of action across Essex.
The campaign, by Essex Wildlife Trust, got people to pick up five discarded items every day for 10 days.
42 schools in Essex signed up, as well as rambling groups, businesses and local authorities.
Campaign officer Gemma Cosson said: “Keeping these spaces clean and tidy goes a long way to prevent any injuries or harm to animals.”
And people leaving litter about has made it on to several social media posts recently. One such example was a family picnic at Lake Meadows in Billericay when a group of people left bags of their rubbish lying in the park after their picnic. What’s the matter with people? Take it home or place it in the bins provided! Rant over….

Martin’s Choice – My song for this week takes us back to the 80s.
I wasn’t into very much in the way of pop music during this time but this band drew my attention when they released their third album Flaunt the imperfection.
I’m talking about China Crisis. A duo from Kirkby near Liverpool who formed back in 1979, their music fell into the genre of new wave synth pop and with the release of the album Flaunt The Imperfection in 1985 they had a string of big hits with Black Man Ray, and King in a Catholic Style from it.
I also know that the late Walter Becker from the band Steely Dan produced this album which made me even more interested in it. They still tour around the world to this day and pack venues. The song I’m going to choose was a hit off the album but not as big as the ones I mentioned earlier, The song is the Highest High, I hope you like it?
