Congratulations to Kevin Matthews who yesterday became the hero of the moment when he rescued a duck in Lake Meadows Billericay.
Jessica Adams posted on Facebook for help saying “Please help duck caught on fishing wire on island, it’s long fishing wire that the duck can’t get off of. No one there is to call for lake meadows!!”
It wasn’t long before Jessica’s partner came to the rescue dressed suitably in a wet suit. He swam over to the island and released the poor duck as well as tidying up and disposing of lots of discarded fishing line.

Matt Davies, commenting on Facebook said “As an angler, this absolutely pees me right off, in addition to line being left all over the place which ducks get caught up in.
Anglers who do this should get their rod licenses revoked and banned.”
The duck was unavailable for comment but I’m sure it’s very grateful!
Well done Kevin Matthews!

Martin’s Choice – This week I’m paying a small tribute to a great American drummer Clem Burke who sadly passed away this week at the age of 70.
Born and raised in New York he learned to play the drums on his father’s drum kit, he gained experience by joining marching bands and cover groups.
In the mid 70s Clem Burke met and joined Debbie Harry and Chris Stein forming the band Blondie. Although Blondie is best remembered for its charismatic singer Debbie Harry you can’t help but notice Clems energetic playing and versatility behind the drums that provided the beat for the band and is just as important to the bands success.
Blondie in the early days were an underground new wave punk band from New York Not known at all until they made the album parallel Lines. The rest is history as they say!
With a string of great hits from this album it took the band into mega stardom, The song I’m choosing is from the album, Heart of Glass and is their biggest selling song. The song also shows off Clem Burkes amazing influence in the band perfectly! To any musicians listening to the show the use of putting bars of 3 beats into a song made up of bars of 4 beats in the chorus is genius! The song was a big hit In the night clubs and discos during this era! Not bad for a punk band !!
RIP Clem Burke
