PHOENIX SPORT – 5th April 2025

Our featured football games on this week’s show saw Leyton Orient ‘s hopes of making the Sky Bet League One play-offs fade, as they could only manage a goalless draw at home to Wigan Athletic.

Meanwhile, Billericay Town saw another big blow to their Isthmian Premier League title hopes.

Gary McCann ‘s men suffered a second consecutive home defeat, as they were beaten 2-0 by Cray Wanderers at New Lodge.

But Brentwood Town had a good day in the Isthmian North, a 2-1 win at Witham Town taking them five points clear at the top of the league.

Elsewhere in sport, cricket’s County Championship returned for a new season on Friday, and Essex made an impressive start at Chelmsford in their opening Division One match against Surrey, declaring at 582-6 on day two but the visitors fought back well once in bat, and the match finished in a draw on Monday.

And in Horse Racing, the 2025 Grand National was won by 33-1 priced Nick Rockett, trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by his son Patrick.
