A slightly different show this week in support of a regular listener who will be going quite a few extra miles in order to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research.
On Sunday it’s the London landmark half marathon and regular listener Sandie Duffy from Billericay will be running.

Sandie Duffy
Sandie downloads this show from the Phoenix FM website and listens to it on practice runs, and will be listening on Sunday when she’s pounding through the streets of London. So today I played lots of running music to spur Sandie on to the finish line.
If you would like to sponsor Sandie here’s a link to her Just Giving page.

Martin’s Choice – My song choice this week is from Paul Simon.
Where do you start with this the man? He has done so much ! I could pick so many songs ! With his early days with Art Garfunkel and then onto his solo career the song list is endless! I’ve chosen a song called Late in the Evening.
It’s a great song and One of the reasons I’ve chosen it is because I’d like to mention his drummer the great Steve Gad,
A top session drummer who has played for the likes of Steely Dan, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, Carly Simon, and Al Jarreau to mention but a few.
They say a band is only as good as its drummer ! But of course I would say that as I play the drums, But Steve Gad always has been able to add something to all of the artists songs that he has worked with and turned good songs into great songs.
This song is no exception, he plays on this song what is known as a Mozambique rhythm which originated in the Dominican Republic and is a blend of Afro Cuban dance music.
So we have a good song turned into a great song because Steve Gad thought he would put a Mozambique rhythm on it. It works perfectly!
