P H O E N I X   P L A Y E R
Rt Rev Roger Morris Bishop of Colchester
One 2 Three
Patrick Sherring

As Bishop of Colchester, Bishop Roger  covers the northern part of Essex, as well as some responsibilities across all Essex.

It is 23 days since Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Bishop Roger feels it is good to have a time of reflection and take stock of your life. He gave the example of  Alfred Noble. Due to a newspaper error, he read an obituary of himself as the man who had killed the most people in history through the invention of dynamite. He felt he did not want to be remembered this way, subsequently establishing the five Noble prizes, including the Peace prize.

For over 20 years he has stage-managed the Canopy Stage (previously The Performance Cafe)  at the annual Greenbelt Festival, focussing on social justice, faith and art. He  described the festival as “like Glastonbury, but no-one will steal your wallet.” For more information about the festival this year , 21st – 24th of August at Broughton house, nr. Kettering, check out

Bishop Roger loves modern music and films. He recommended watching Adolescence, the recent series on Netflix.

Where he was born, Bristol Rovers, “The Gas” were the only team to support. He watches them when he can.

We were also joined by University student Chyna Rose who has been on work experience at PhoenixFM throughout this week.
