Wine-tasting evening raises nearly £8,000 in aid of charity

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

Phoenix FM volunteers were out and about in Brentwood last week, surrounded by gallons and gallons of alcohol – but this time, all for a very good cause!

The Marillac Neurological Care Centre’s Liesbeth Newman is a regular on Phoenix FM, talking about the local charity and their fundraising efforts with local events and campaigns.

We decided to get out on the road with them this time, putting on a wine-tasting event at Marco’s Restaurant at the Holiday Inn in Brook Street.

The event was co-hosted by Phoenix FM; our sales guru Steve Roach had been schoomzing local businesses for weeks persuading many of them to support this good cause.

We’d like to say thanks to Marco’s and to Accolade Wines who provided the food and drink free of charge.

84 people attended the event, and just under £8,000 was raised towards the Marillac’s care costs.

For those who don’t know, the Marillac is a non-profit organisation in Eagle Way, Warley which provides specialist care and treatment for 52 residents with complex neurological conditions.
