Bob’s special tribute to Daphne

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We were all sorry to hear the news that regular Billericay listener – and erstwhile presenter – Daphne Norris had passed away, just a few weeks short of her 90th birthday.

For more than two years Bob Simpson has been playing Daphne’s choices on his regular lunchtime show, One 2 Three.

Daphne lived in the local area all of her life; Bob first met her 4 years ago when he moved house, and quickly became good friends.

Daphne featured in her own show on Phoenix FM during Christmas 2023, reminiscing about times past. She was born in Southend but moved to Hutton and Shenfield very soon afterwards, also living in Mountnessing before settling in Billericay, where she lived for over 65 years.

As well as choosing music, she would regularly talk on air about her wartime childhood and her memories of the local area during that time and how they impacted everyday life.

Bob has recorded a special tribute, which you can hear again at phoenixfm.com.
