Thanks for listening! This isn’t my photo, but I have one just like it. I listened to Snap! on my Walkman while sitting on the school bus for months and months while I was in the 6th form. And after that, I bought up all of the Jam’s albums, one by one.
So like thousands of other people who grew up when I did I was very sad to hear about the passing of the band’s drummer, Rick Buckler. The obvious tribute would have been Funeral Pyre which is a real showcase to his drumming, but by way of a tribute I went for Down In The Tube Station At Midnight, which really showcases the band’s storytelling – nothing pretentious in the way the story was told (that came later for Weller with the Style Council), but a powerful story all the same and one that still resonates today.
