One of the things I have loved about Phoenix FM is that we have had an endless stream of local theatre groups and production companies visit us to talk about their shows and the motivations behind them. It seems like there is no end of creative talent in our community.
This week it was the turn of Lauren Bracewell and Julia Stallard from Local Girl Productions. The group is a women-only participatory theatre company, whose aim is to tell extraordinary stories about ordinary humans.
Lauren and Julia came in to talk to Michelle Spencer on her Sunday show to talk about Oestrogen Assemble, a show designed to make you laugh, as well as offering space to reflect.
Created in response to a number of provocations, this community-led piece explores body image, menstruation, menopause and aging through original songs, scenes, monologues and poetry. The show has a cast of over 30 women spanning three generations, many of whom are writing for the stage for the first time.
Local Girl Productions supports Havering Women’s Aid and theatre-goers are asked to bring a donation of toiletries to the show.
You can hear the interview again at phoenixfm.com and find out more about Local Girl Productions on www.facebook.com/LocalGirlProds, where you can also find links to buy tickets for the forthcoming performances.
