Samsung Smartphones Offer a Glimps into the Future

One of the most popular technologies today is artificial intelligence, which has now found its way into our pockets thanks to smartphones. Samsung is at the forefront of AI features, with their latest phones offering capabilities that seemed like science fiction a few years ago, and using them feels like using a phone from the future.

Samsung introduced its first AI-powered smartphones, the Galaxy S24 series, in January 2024, followed by the enhanced Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6 in the summer, and since then, the company has been rolling out AI features to a number of other devices. The company plans to bring Galaxy AI features to around 200 million devices by the end of the year, making mobile phones, smartwatches, headphones and tablets even more efficient.

Artificial intelligence on your phone

Some of the AI features on Samsung devices are provided by Google. One such feature is the simple but more effective Circle Search, which allows you to search for a detail circled on the screen. Can’t remember the name of a dog breed? Are you curious about what kind of building a friend took a photo of? Do you like a boot in a series? All you have to do is press and hold the Home button in the navigation menu, then circle the “topic” you want to search for, and you will immediately receive relevant results. And that’s not all, as the AI is able to solve the selected formula, scan a QR code, and you can not only circle, but also write a text question, or even start a voice search, for example, the system will recognize the number playing near you.

Also developed by Google, Gemini is available on Galaxy devices. It is a multimodal digital assistant based on artificial intelligence, i.e. capable of interpreting text, moving and still images, as well as sound. It can be launched as an application or activated with the Hey Google voice command. With the development that will eventually replace Google Assistant, we can even chat in real words (ask it anything), although its capabilities in Hungarian are still limited. Gemini can also compose text for us, we can have it translate from or to a foreign language, and even generate an image based on the parameters we provide.

Galaxy AI

Though at a premium Samsung mobile price point but the Galaxy devices do offer much more than that, thanks to the manufacturer’s own developments, which fall under the collective name Galaxy AI, and can basically be divided into two large groups: language and image solutions. The South Korean company also has its own, cloud-based (i.e. requiring an internet connection) generative solution, which can be accessed, for example, using the Sketch to Art function on the manufacturer’s compatible devices. The essence of this is that artificial intelligence can create a beautifully crafted image from even a few line doodles, in different styles (watercolor, illustration, sketch, Pop-art, 3D cartoon).

To do this, you just need to open the Samsung Notes app, draw with your hand, then press the Galaxy AI function marked with a star, select the Sketch to Art option, tap on the style you like, and the system will present you with several options in a few seconds. The same option is also available in the Gallery, where you can have AI draw anything on your own photos, from a cat on your lap to a cake in your hand.

Generative AI can also be used to remove unwanted people and objects from your photos during editing using the Generative Editor. The software also automatically recognizes human faces and portrait photos, and always offers the Portrait Studio option, which can also be used to transform photos in our gallery into multiple styles (comic, 3D cartoon, watercolor, sketch).

AI can also be used to create wallpapers: under the Change Wallpapers menu, we find the Generative and Photo Environment options for this purpose. The former can create many variations based on predefined themes (e.g. night, painting, mineral, etc.) but using different keywords, while the latter transforms our own photos, and in a dynamic way, so the selected photo (say, a shot of Mount Fuji in Japan) always appears on the lock screen according to the current time of day and weather.

Will language barriers disappear?

Even more exciting than the visual solutions is what Galaxy AI can do when it comes to text or speech, i.e. language. One of the most futuristic features here is Live Translation, which can be activated during a call, thanks to which the person on either end of the phone can speak into the device in their own language, and the AI will translate what was said – and announce it to the other party in a machine voice, or display it in text form on the phone screen.

The only flaw is that the software does not yet know Hungarian, but for now, the artificial intelligence can provide reliable translations between English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, and a few Asian languages.

The Interpreter function works in much the same way, providing assistance not during a phone call, but during a live conversation (in the languages already mentioned), and translating the words of the speaking parties through the phone’s speaker. The description also appears on the display in this case, and one of the great advantages of the foldable Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6 phones is that the external and internal screens can display the translated words for both parties, without the need to rotate the phone unnecessarily, thus facilitating communication. Such features have not yet made it into the cheaper chinese companies like Infinix or Tecno and hence the Tecno and Infinix mobile price points also reflects that.

Another futuristic option is Text Call, where we can talk to someone without actually speaking – because, say, we are in a place or situation where we cannot or cannot speak. In this case, when we answer the call, AI displays the voice coming from the other party as text, and we can respond using the keyboard, and artificial intelligence reads what we typed for the caller.

Galaxy AI can also be of great help when we communicate only with text rather than voice. For example, the AI translation feature is available in various messaging services and does exactly what its name suggests: it translates incoming and outgoing texts.

The good news is that the artificial intelligence built into the Samsung keyboard now knows Hungarian, and using the Author function, it can generate longer text for us from a few short sentences, for different purposes (email, social media, comments, etc.) and styles (polite, casual, professional). And the Spelling Assistant checks the text we type to make sure there are no mistakes in it – which is a big advantage, especially for important letters.

The Samsung Notes application is capable of even more than this, where with the help of artificial intelligence, not only can a longer text be formatted beautifully in lightning speed, but you can also request a shortened summary from the AI, even in Hungarian. There is also the Transcribe Voice Notes function, which although it does not yet support Hungarian, can create a text document in the supported languages from audio recorded at a meeting, and can even briefly summarize it.

Artificial intelligence beyond the phone

Of course, AI has not only moved into mobile phones, but it is also present on other devices. Just for example: advanced algorithms in the Galaxy Buds3 earphones ensure the best possible sound quality, both while listening to music and during calls, and artificial intelligence also plays an important role in making active noise cancellation as effective as possible. The earphones, which debuted in the summer, were also recognized by the Consumer Technology Association, as this wearable device was awarded the 2025 CES Best of Innovation award in the Headphones and Audio category.

This advancement extends across Samsung’s portfolio, where devices like the Galaxy A34 incorporate similar cutting-edge AI features. Notably, the Samsung Galaxy A34 price in Pakistan reflects its competitive positioning in delivering value-packed innovation.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem of smart devices has also been affected by this kind of development. The Bespoke Jet AI cordless vacuum cleaner, for example, is able to charge the device’s battery when energy is cheapest, and air conditioners under the BeSpoke AI brand learn the owner’s habits and adjust the temperature accordingly, while paying attention to doing so in the most energy-efficient way possible.

These possibilities were still in the realm of science fiction a few years ago, but today they are reality, and given that we are still at the very beginning of the AI era, we have only gotten a taste of what revolutionary solutions await us in the near future.
