Chris Burke talked about Christmas. Pete Graham gave an update on the work of the Brentwood Foodbank
Chris said he loved Christmas, all the lights and decorations. He felt it was important to take time to consider the truth at the heart of the Christmas story and the implications of the birth of Jesus. There are many helpful apps that can be listened to at any available time. If life appears too busy, then he suggested making a specific effort to make a time, maybe just 10 minutes a day.
CeeLo Green – What Christmas means to me – Theme for my show on Boxing Day 10 a.m – 1 p.m.
Carrie Underwood – Let there be peace – One of the track chosen last week by Ian and Sue from the Brentwood Schools Christian Worker Trust.
Annie Lennox – In the bleak midwinter – From the 2010 album – Christmas cornucopia. Chris highlighted the second verse as pointing to a response to the birth of Jesus.
Huddersfield Choral Society – Angels from the realms of glory. This carol gives a sense of expectation. Chris also likes the Sheffield connection as he worked at the Cathedral.
Slade – Merry Xmas everybody. 1973 UK & Ireland no 1. I million UK physical sales. 1.8 million digital sales. 122 weeks on the charts across 35 years of Christmas charts. No 30 this week. For Chris, this song had been part of every Christmas in his life.

Pastor Peter Graham is from Dodds Road Community church where they host the Brentwood Foodbank. They have been working with 330 individuals this week. Throughout the year it has been 342 households who have never used a foodbank before. 37% of those provided with food and essentials have been under 18s. 41% of their clients have been just once and been helped through a crisis. Those who come more often are encouraged to look to how they might address any underlying problems. There is an urgent need for more volunteers to be involved in many different roles. David Kushner – Daylight. Pete feels this is a song about the internal struggle that everyone faces.
For King and Country – Go tell it on the mountain. This is Pete’s favourite Christmas carol. A call to tell everyone about the birth of Jesus.
Jos Garrels – At my table. A song of Christian invitation.
