Hornchurch girl Millie wins Women’s FA Cup award!

HORNCHURCH based footballer Millie Isherwood has won the FA’s Women’s FA Cup player of the round for her part in an incredible nine goal thriller against Queens Park Rangers.

Millie, 19, scored four times in a 6-3 extra time win for her team, London Bees, in which they had to come from behind twice in terrible weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh.

The striker scored 24 goals in 25 games for Bowers & Pitsea in the Eastern Region Premier Division last season before making the step up to join the Bees in the summer.

She scored twice in injury time in a previous round to see off Farnham Town but scored even later in this pulsating 3rd round tie, scoring in the 99th and 112th minutes to put the tie beyond battling Rangers who had been reduced to ten players during the first half following a red card.

It was Millie’s first such award and she also got to take home with her the special FA Cup match ball.

The award came as a surprise to Millie who was sitting on her sofa at home waiting for the fourth round draw when the news came through. “I wasn’t expecting to win but I’m very happy and grateful for everyone that voted for me”

London Bees were first of the 32 teams pulled out of the bag for the fourth round draw and were rewarded with a home tie against Rugby Borough.

Previously known as Coventry United, in 2022 they played Billericay Town at this stage of the competition and needed penalties to get through so another close encounter awaits.

Elsewhere in the draw, one of the ties of the round sees West Ham United take on fellow top flight side Liverpool. The two sides recently drew 1-1 in the league in East London. All ties to be played on Sunday, January 12th.
