1980 – Iron Maiden play their first gig with new guitarist Adrian Smith in Uxbridge. Despite little radio or television support Iron Maiden are considered one of the most successful heavy metal bands in history. The band won the Ivor Novello Award for international achievement in 2002.

1982 – The Jamaica World Music Festival is held in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Acts include the Grateful Dead, Aretha Franklin, Squeeze & The Clash

1987 – Cher returns to the music after five years of absence – time that she took to dedicate herself to the filmmaking business. She came back with the single I Found Someone, which peaked at number five in the UK.
