For this week’s historical feature, Margaret Mills took us back to the days when motor racing started in Essex shortly after the end of the last war.
RAF BOREHAM was released by the military in 1946, so after developing the almost 5 mile perimeter track, the West Essex Car Club started motor racing proper in 1949.
During their active years they succeeded in attracting big names such as Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn, Ken Wharton and even John Surtees.
Unfortunately in spite of its popularity, motor racing in Boreham lasted only until 1952, due t financial issues.
Listen here to what Margaret told me today: –
Very much hope to see you once more next week,
Scott
