The Return of Trump – The Music Does the Talking

Waking up to today’s news from the USA left me feeling that I should do an item about it on today’s show. I couldn’t find adequate words however, so I left it to the music, interspersed with a few clips of the man himself. This can be heard at the start of the show.

Also on today’s show –

A great new track from Michelle Ward – Love to Dance is an uplifting anthem with a big chorus vocal and harmonies to dance you into the Universe.

Quincy Jones, the celebrated US musician and producer who worked with Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and many others, has died at the age of 91.

Scammers are “preying” on people who are desperate to secure an appointment with an NHS dentist, according to leading members of the profession.

Today’s Birthdays

1943 – Joni Mitchell, Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist. As one of the most influential singer-songwriters to emerge from the 1960s folk music circuit, Mitchell became known for her personal lyrics and unconventional compositions which grew to incorporate pop and jazz elements. Among her accolades are eleven Grammy Awards, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Rolling Stone called her “one of the greatest songwriters ever”

Her 1971 album Blue is often cited as one of the greatest albums of all time.

1967 – Sharleen Spiteri, Scottish singer-songwriter and actress, best known as the lead singer of the rock band Texas, who rose to prominence in 1989 with the release of their debut single “I Don’t Want a Lover”

Song for Daphne – “A Fine Romance” is a popular song composed by Jerome Kern with lyrics by Dorothy Fields, published in 1936. The song was written for the musical film, Swing Time, where it was co-introduced by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Recorded by many famous artists over the year, the version I played for you today is by the fabulous Ella Fitzgerald.
