During the course of today’s show, we reported on one of the perhaps strangest cases to be brought before magistrates.
But over in Greece a 28-year old man has just been convicted of sniffing his neighbours’ shoes.
He was arrested at dawn on October 8th in the front yard of a neighbour’s property sniffing the family’s shoes which had been left outside to air.
But apparently this is not the first time he had been caught doing this as the court was told of three similar instances over the past 6 months, and that neighbours had approached the man’s family in an effort to get them to put pressure on him to stop.
The man told the court that he was unable to explain his behaviour, which, he admitted caused him great embarrassment, and he stressed that he had no intention of breaking the law or harming anybody.
Indeed neighbours confirmed that he had never displayed any sign of aggression during his nocturnal visits.
Nevertheless the court has now imposed a suspended one month prison sentence, and ordered him to attend therapy sessions.
I’m speechless – and believe me that doesn’t happen often!
Of course being a Tuesday, I was joined once more by MARGARET MILLS, who’s subject today was a campaigner for women rights who is believed to have produced the first leaflet in support of women’s suffrage.
The lady in question was ANNE KNIGHT, who was born in Chelmsford in 1786, the daughter of a grocer.
Listen here if you missed what Margaret told me today: –
I hope to have the pleasure of your company again next week,
Scott
