Curveballs 23rd October 2024 (035 Special with Chemiqueen, Fallen Relic & Opensight)

Tonight we looked ahead to a busy weekend with the latest 035 Promotions gigs, chatting to the three bands performing at the Lamb & Lion leg in Westcliff. Find out about all of them here and scroll down for the link to listen back to the show.

First up we spoke to organiser Tranunki, who has a full-on Saturday as alongside the Westcliff gig, is hosting a second 035 gig at Reading’s The Acoustic Couch with Reverent Son and Tragedy Strikes First. We also had a look back at the first 035 gig which happened a year ago this month, and to the future with the last two gigs of the year coming up over the next few weeks. Check out 035promotions.co.uk

Onto the bands, the first of which being Mark and Dave (aka Wookie) from Fallen Relic. The Essex foursome formed in 2018 and released their second EP, Lethal Reflection, in July, from which the two tracks we played tonight are featured. The EP is available on a pay-what-you-can basis on their Bandcamp page, and you can next catch them live at Coda in Colchester on November 23rd for the marvellously named Commotion Fest. Keep up with their gig listings and other news on Facebook and Instagram.

Next up was Duncan and Redd from 035 regulars Opensight, who have just released a new single Alibi from their upcoming live album The Grindhouse Tapes (Forged in London). The album’s release is set to cap off a year that will end as busily as it began for the multinational foursome, with gigs at the Fiddler’s Elbow on November 30th and the Cart & Horses on December 6th. Find all their music and social links here.

Finally I was joined by Vic, Gareth and Ross from headliners Chemiqueen. The Essex fivesome have had an impressive year, including a six-date UK tour over the summer, which we heard a few stories from tonight. They’re currently also working on new material, and you may get a sample of that when they play the aforementioned Commotion Fest alongside Fallen Relic and many more great local bands at Coda on November 23rd. Find links to all things Chemiqueen here.
