The World Conker Championships this year was hit by drama after the men’s champion was found with a steel chestnut in his pocket!
David Jakins, 82, came out champion in Sunday’s event – it was his first win after taking part since 1977.
Jakins, AKA “King Conker”, recorded wins in which he destroyed his opponent’s conker with one hit.
A steel conker, painted brown, was later discovered in Mr Jakins’ pocket.
He denied using it during the championships in Southwick, Northamptonshire, and said he only had it with him for “humour value”.
