Benny Hagerty, a singer-songwriter based in Greenville, South Carolina, relocated from the northeast in the summer of 2020. During his travels to South Carolina Hagerty stumbled into Southern Appalachia, driving through the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and North Carolina along I-81 and I-26.
After seeing the beauty of the Blue Ridge in person, Hagerty began immersing himself into the rich history of Appalachian music. The instrumentation of bluegrass and old time mountain music inspired him to start learning banjo. Last night, he joined Madeline on The Nightshift to take listeners through his approach and connection to the bluegrass revival as well as the stories behind both his released and unreleased songs.
