A Testing Time for Our Local Foodbanks

August and September has been a testing time for our Foodbanks in both Brentwood and Billericay.

In Brentwood the other day some 300 emergency food parcels were issued. As time has gone on the demand has not let up but the level of donations has dropped slightly.

So if you are able to spare anything please buy a couple of extras of non perishables (Tins, packets, etc) along with your weekly shop.

In Brentwood you can drop off donations every Tuesday or Wednesday at Doddinghurst Road Community Church and Fridays at Brentwood Baptist Church in Kings Road, as well as Sainsbury’s in William Hunter Way open 7 days a week!

In Billericay at Emmanuel Church on Monday between 3 – 4pm, except school and bank holidays
St. John’s Church on Tuesdays between 2.00pm – 4.00pm
Queens Park Community Church on Fridays between 10am-12pm. As well as the donation bins in many local shops.

Also on today’s show –

Song for Daphne – “(There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me” is a song written by American songwriting duo Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Originally recorded as a demo by Dionne Warwick in 1963, “(There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me” first charted for Lou Johnson, whose version reached No. 49 on the American charts in mid-1964. Sandie Shaw took the song to No. 1 in the UK that same year.

On this day in 1452 King Richard III was born. On 25th August 2012 archaeologists began a dig, searching under a car park in Leicester for his last resting place. On 12th September they said that the human remains found showed similarities to the king’s portrayal in records.

Birthdays –

1945 – Don McLean, American singer-songwriter

1950 – Mike Rutherford, English guitarist (Genesis, Mike and the Mechanics)

1951 – Sting, English singer-songwriter and actor

1955 – Philip Oakey, English singer-songwriter, keyboard player, and producer (Human League)

Fans hoping to see Coldplay have been left “gutted” after missing out on tickets.

And tributes have been paid to Kris Kristofferson, the award-winning country singer and actor following his death at the age of 88.
