Sarah and Lee helping to keep the legacy of Patsy Cline alive at show

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

I’m not old enough to remember the legendary American singer Patsy Cline, and as he passed away in 1963 I don’t think many of our listeners will remember her that well either, although many people, old and young, will know her worldwide hit “Crazy”.

She is considered one of the most influential vocalists of the 20th century, being one of the first country music artists to cross over into pop music. Cline had several major hits during her eight-year recording career, including two number-one hits on the Billboard Hot Country and Western Sides chart.

Her career – and her life – ended in a very untimely manner when she died in a plane crash at the age of 32. However many people are still keeping her legacy alive worldwide.

We welcomed Sarah O’Shea and Lee J Hodgson into the studio last week. They are performing with a full band at the Patsy Cline and Friends show on Friday 13 September, at the Mills Art Centre in Rayleigh.

Our daytime presenter Michelle Ward, a singer herself, says that Sarah is one of the best vocalists in the county and been performing music since the age of just 14.

The duo performed two acoustic numbers from the show and it certainly did showcase what a stunning voice she has, backed up by an excellent performance on guitar by Lee.

Not only are the band performing Patsy Cline numbers, but they will also be performing songs from across the whole country music genre, including Dolly Parton, Shania Twain and more.

You can hear and see the session again at phoenixfm.com.
