You may have heard us playing out Funny by Oktavvia on recent shows here on Phoenix FM – the video has been a great success too, with more than a million and a half views in a week! But who is Oktavvia? We caught up with her to find out more …

How did your musical journey begin?

My journey with music began during my childhood. Nothing brought me more joy like music did, no toys, no treats, no vacations, only radio stations playing all of my favourite songs and being able to dance to them..;) The neighbors from the block where I grew up were my audience and I made them laugh constantly with my performances, and so the joy that music brings me has always been with me.

What was the inspiration behind “Funny”?

My character, personality and charisma were always noticed by many people around me and music became my inspiration to infect them with smiles and make them happy. That’s one of the reasons I created the song “Funny”.

My international roots allowed me to accept myself in all my glory. I got to see multicultural diversity and how different nations did things and saw the world.

How did you develop your love of music?

The main reason I love music though, is because no matter what nationality you are, music always brings people together, and that is my main goal when creating music. I want to unite people and infect them with joy, love, happiness and self- acceptance. My message is simple: “We all deserve to feel loved”! Originality, breaking taboos and making sure people know they are all special, and deserve happiness and love, are all things that define my work.

Obviously I know that my goal is far-fetched, but to me, as long as the message in my music helps out even a few people, that alone will make all this work worthwhile and be a massive success for my team and I.

Are you busy with more projects at the moment?

I am already working on my upcoming projects, and it is all very exciting, and will definitely be surprising! In the end, all I want to do is energize people with my work!

When it comes to what you can expect next for me, all I am gonna say is this: the songs we will release next are created on an ongoing basis in my head and in my heart. You never know what I will come up with next, because life is a constant surprise, even to myself.

I literally surprise myself with the things I come up with. And that ties back into my song “Funny”! We wanted to convey that reality is not always what it seems, and that life can be surprising because you don’t ever really know what to expect.

I no longer plan my life, because the end results have made me laugh many times, sometimes to the point of tears, surprising me with its perversity.

I now wait with open arms for what life will bring me and I take advantage of all the opportunities given to me by fate. All you can do, and what I try to do, is to just listen deeply to myself to understand what is playing out in my life at any given moment and just try to choose the right path in the end, so that you don’t have any regrets.

Please don’t give up, life does not want you to give up, everything hard in life is simply a test to make you stronger. Please keep fighting for what you want, but don’t do anything in life, expecting something in return. You will achieve success in the end. I promise. I hope that my song “Funny” will be a fan favourite for years to come, and that it will be part of the soundtrack to many of your favourite memories!

Finally – why the double VV in your name?

Double VV is a symbol of double victory with yourself… because I strongly believe that by living in harmony with yourself we achieve victory in life!!!
