Smashing the stigma is part of the international Suicide Awareness week. Julie talked movingly about how suicide had happened within her own family. She decided to organise this event as something positive coming from something so devastating. There is a stigma around suicide and people don’t talk about what has happened in their families and people don’t know what to say to them. Julie spoke about how there is a huge ripple effect around a suicide, reaching out to a wide group of people. The suicide statistics show that this is something that cannot simply be ignored. Many organisations will be present that can provide help and resources. Julie wanted to emphasise that within the church there is positive understanding about all maters related to mental health and no condemnation.
