Rob said that if you see a homeless person you should contact https://thestreetlink.org.uk They will be visited within 24 for assessment to see what help can be provided. He emphasised that no-one wants to be homeless, a point he makes on visits to schools. At this time of year, those on the street need items like bottles of water and sun cream. Practical items like this can be left at the CHESS offices at New London Road, Chelmsford, CM2 9AB. Contact phone number 01245 281104. https://chesshomeless.org
At the moment they provide accommodation for 64 individuals across eleven properties. In 2022/23 149 people were prevented from being street homeless. Rob is very hopeful that later this year they will be able to expand one of their sites from a capacity of 9 to 24. These would be in self-contained modular units. He said that once these were in place, there would be the need to provide beds, washing machines, fridges etc. In an ideal scenario, someone could be given firstly accommodation where they are supported, though being self-supported to then either returning to their previous home or to new accommodation.
Fundraising is always a priority. Rob is taking part in the 55 mile London to Brighton cycle ride on 15th of September. He is raising funds to support homeless adults in Essex through the work of CHESS Homeless. The fundraising page is
