In Football, the FA Cup campaign for the 2024/25 season began this weekend with the Extra Preliminary Round, and our featured tie saw Witham Town of the Isthmian North progress to the next stage of the competition, following a 2-1 win over fellow step four club Hertford Town at the Simmarco Stadium.
Essex Senior League newcomers Benfleet were one of the other local sides to go through.
They hosted fellow ESL outfit Woodford Town at their newly refurbished Woodside Park ground, and a healthy crowd of 347 saw the hosts win their first ever FA Cup tie by three goals to one.
