Curveballs’ Nick Field returned to Latitude Festival to see what 2024 had to offer – and this is who he found!
Reverend & The Makers’ Jon McClure
Reverend & The Makers first landed in the charts back in 2007 with their single ‘Heavyweight Champion of the World’ from album ‘The State of Things’ – since then they’ve released a further six albums with influences ranging from rock, folk and electronica, with a new album currently in the works for 2025. We caught up with frontman John McClure just ahead of their set at the Obelisk Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Lottery Winners
Nick caught up with The Lottery Winners’ frontman Joe and bassist Katie at Latitude Festival just ahead of their performance on the Obelisk Arena stage on Sunday afternoon. The Manchester foursome (also featuring guitarist Robert and drummer Joe) originally formed in 2008 but their star has risen notably in the last few years with several singles, including recent duets with Frank Turner (also spotted at Latitude over the weekend), Shaun Ryder, Boy George and even Nickelback during the 2021 lockdown! Click to listen back to them discuss their random duets and more – maybe Nick’s voice will be a future one too…

Nerina Pallot
Nerina Pallot, a singer-songwriter born in London & raised in Jersey, first found fame in 2005 with her second album ‘Fires’ featuring the singles ‘Every body’s Gone to War’, ‘All Good People’ and ‘Sophia’. Pallot is also an experienced stage performer and author, and is currently working on her eigth studio album. Nick caught up with her after performing on the Obelisk Arena stage at Latitude on Saturday morning – and just before heading off to the south coast for her second festival appearance of the day!

The Comedy Store Players
Nick caught up with two of The Comedy Store Players, Stephen Frost and Richard Vranch, just after performing on Latitude’s Outpost stage. Stephen and Richard may be familiar to many of you from their work on Channel 4 series Whose Line Is It Anyway? which brought improv comedy to a wider audience when it first premiered in the 1990s, and both continue to be regulars at The Comedy Store Players night, taking place every Sunday evening at the Comedy Store London.

Gaffa Tape Sandy
Punk trio Gaffa Tape Sandy are something of a local success story for Latitude, having formed nearby in Bury St Edmunds back in 2015, and now making their third Latitude appearance as the Saturday night headline act on the Alcove stage. After a series of EPs, their debut album Hold My Hand Dammit was released earlier this year, and although the trio now reside in Brighton, the packed-out tent showed their local following is as strong as ever. Nick caught up with frontman Kim to discuss the rest of their summer plans.

Performance Interpreting – The BSL Tent
The BSL interpreters are truly among the unsung heroes of Latitude Festival – until now that is, as this year saw a record number of performers giving shout-outs on stage to the interpreters whose energy were an easy match even for the most fast-paced of live sets over the weekend. Alongside the stage work, Performance Interpreting could also be found giving lessons in signing and promoting accessibility to BSL. Nick caught up with BSL teacher and stage coordinator Dilara to find out more about what goes into interpreting a performance and the best ways to get into learning to sign.
