Braintree Town have landed another marquee signing with the arrival of John Akinde after his release from Colchester United.
The Iron have been busy in the market following their promotion via the Vanarama National League South play-offs last season, returning to a division they have not been in for six seasons.
The 35-year-old bolsters an already-proven frontline which has ex-Dagenham & Redbridge bagsman Innih Effiong and Callum Powell, formerly of Southend United, among its ranks.
The experienced striker is back in the National League having previously plied his trade for several Football League outfits including Bristol City, Crawley Town, Lincoln City and Gillingham.
A regular for the U’s in their battle to remain in Sky Bet League Two last term, he made 28 league appearances and netted two goals in that period.
Akinde will also be in good company in North Essex as he links up with ex-Colchester teammates Chay Cooper, Ryan Clampin and Marley Marshall Miranda.
Braintree kick-off their National League campaign with a trip to Oldham Athletic on Saturday 10th August before welcoming fellow recently-promoted side Yeovil Town to Cressing Road a week later.
