Cancer Research UK has received a generous £500-plus donation from Brentwood Bowling Club.
The money was raised by the club after they were invited to stage a Gala Day for all the clubs who
compete in the popular Clockhouse League, one of the area’s top tournaments.
Brentwood Bowling Club, incorporating Central Essex Bowling Club, play on two six rink greens at
their excellent headquarters in King George’s Playing Fields, Ingrave Road, Brentwood.
Clavellina Martinez, the assistant manager at the busy Cancer Research UK shop at 87 High Street,
Brentwood, said: “We were delighted to receive such a generous donation and we must offer our
sincere thanks to everyone involved at the bowling club.”
The cheque was presented to Clavellina by James Nolan, a long-standing bowling club member who has worked as a volunteer at the Cancer UK shop for 20 years.
Bob Theobald, the club chairman, said: “The day was a great success thanks to all the hard work put in by club members and we were thrilled to be able to make this donation to such a worthwhile
charity.”
The club is going from strength to strength and now has more than 170 members – a rise of 40 per
cent over the past couple of years.
Brentwood BC was formed in 1908 and is affiliated to Bowls England, Essex County Bowling
Associations and various local and regional associations.
