Basildon United have appointed Ajay Ashanike as their new manager following Darren Manning’s departure.
Manning departed The Stuart Bingham Stadium recently for fellow Isthmian North Division side Grays Athletic, a side he used to ply his trade for.
Coming in his place is Ashanike who has been in charge of Fisher since the start of the 2019/20 campaign.
The Southern Counties East Football League side currently sit in eighth place having finished 11th last term.
A statement from Fisher read: ‘Following an approach from another club, higher up the pyramid, Ajay Ashanike has today resigned his position as manager of Fisher FC. This was a very difficult decision for Ajay, and we thank him for the tremendous job he has done, leading the club over the last four years, bringing through so many exciting and talented players, including taking us to our first cup final since reforming.’
Ashanike has built up a reputation of recruiting young players who go on to earn moves to bigger sides. Examples include Ade Olowu at Barnet, Jamie Yila playing for Chatham Town and Dover Athletic’s Peter Ojeme.
Ashanike’s first game in charge will be tomorrow’s trip to Lowestoft Town.
