Travel on the road to Hel

On today’s show we looked at travel.

First off we heard from Australia about a girl who thought she mind get away from paying for excess luggage if she wore it all.

However in spite of donning five-and-a-half kilograms worth of clothing, she still couldn’t reduce the weight of her bags, meaning that she had to cough up a fine of  AUS$65.

As well as layers of jackets and jumpers, she was wearing baggy trousers into which she had stuffed t-shirts and an iPad and was wearing an extra six layers with heaven knows what else stuffed into various pockets.

But even after this she still had two pairs of shoes, a bag, a pair of jeans and a some socks. She was then told to get rid of the extra stuff she was wearing and pay up.

The whole episode arose it seems because she had gone by bus on the outward journey and so hadn’t needed to weigh her luggage.

Well let that be a lesson to you!

Meanwhile over in Poland it seems that tourists taking the highway to Hel, a seaside resort, will no longer be able travel on bus route 666 after religious groups said the reference to “the number of the beast” – viewed by some as a harmless joke – was “Satanic stupidity”.

Bus company, PKS Gdynia has decided to change the name of the route to 669 on 24th June, after being bombarded with complaints from Christian groups and individuals for almost 10 years. However the 666 route could still be re-instated if there is sufficient demand.

The 22 mile-long (35km) Hel peninsula in northern Poland is said to be one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of the Baltic coast, famous for its remote beaches and forest trails – a far cry from the fiery pit of eternal damnation evoked by its name.

So anyone fancy a trip to Hel?

See you again tomorrow,
Scott
