Now you may recall recent chats we’ve had with Graham Watts about blue plaque projects that have been going on across Essex.
Well this project has now been taken on by the Federation of Essex Women’s Institutes and their first event under their sponsorship took place on the 17th May which concerned NANCY TENNANT and the unveiling of the plaque in her name took place at Ugley Village Hall and so I was joined today by Jan Curtis, the chair of Federation to tell us how the federation became involved.
You can listen to my chat with Jan here in full: –
We also revealed the story of the pensioner who it seems has been driving for more than half a century without a licence.
Incredible but true!
A pensioner’s luck has finally run out as his car was stopped and it was discovered he’d been driving without a licence for 50 years.
Officers from the Derbyshire Police road policing unit pulled the car over for several offences in Derby on Saturday, May 6.
They then discovered the 69-year-old driver had never passed his test or possessed a driving licence, meaning he had been driving illegally for five decades.
He’d been tricking car insurance companies into thinking he had a licence the entire time – and had apparently been bragging about his long-running scam, which led to his downfall.
‘He has systematically provided details to insurance companies indicating that he had a licence.
His vehicle has now been seized seized and driver reported for numerous offences.
The motor insurance bureau commented that had he been involved in a collision and we paid out on a claim, we would’ve come back to him for the total cost of that claim.
The big question must surely be. how on earth did he get away with this for so long?
All being well I hope to return at this same time next Monday.
